QUOTE (cornerrat @ Jul 21 2010, 01:10 PM) All.... A different subject. ( more fodder for some of the fella's over at Turks) Isn't it great that this site allows one to express their opinion ( right or wrong) whether you are considered an outsider or not. Unlike the Star that has rules which supposedly apply to all equally but of course do not. Just an observation... Ratsy You can always ask PJStar Guy to be reinstated. Would love to see some HS FB chatter from down South.

Hopefully, some of you who do make it might find a way to keep us posted. Lunch with the Governor again? See if he can do anything about Quadrants and not seeding the Sectional in sports like Basketball & Volleyball. Actually (ducking as I say this), I like quadrants. Interesting OldFan. You might be the first person I've heard say that. Why do you like them, if I may?

Interesting OldFan. You might be the first person I've heard say that. Why do you like them, if I may? Not at all. Essentially it comes down to the fans. For teams like Meta or SHG, our fans will go anywhere, at least quite a few. This might not be true for all schools, probably isn't. Disadvantaged areas, such as North Chicago, which SHG played in the 2005 playoffs, might not be able to just up and go 400 miles. Even WITh quadrants, there will be long trips (like Carbondale coming all the way to Normal last year to meet SHG at ISU. But it could be worse - how about Marion to Hillcrest? It won't always work, but generally quadrants mean shorter trips. especially in the first 2-3 rounds. Shorter trips mean more folks can follow their team. Some schools are almost spoiled by being so commonly in the playoffs - SHG/Griffin has gone 30 of 34 years. But for some schools even a first round playoff is a really big deal. I know it isn't always so, but my personal belief is that quadrants significant;y improve the chance that more fans can go and both teams can actually have a friendly crowd to play for.

QUOTE (GoBirdsGo II @ Jul 21 2010, 10:32 AM) All I know is that I love HS Football and last year, esp. the end result, was a lot of fun. Considering how many injuries we had during the regular season, as many as 9 starters at one point, to win STATE, was more than I could have imagined. My experience, and that of most MetaFans I'm quite sure, wasn't diminished due to the fact we were 4A. Diminished - not at all. Winning a championship at any level is a great accomplishment. I will say, from my view in the cheap seats, the 6A playoff ride for SHG was, in my opinion, more fun to watch. Maybe for several reasons - 1. It was 6A 2. The 5A wins were, of course, followed with "good thing JCA was not in your class" type of stuff - the 6A road consisted of SHG going through the team that went through JCA - little known team called Providence . . . and 3. SHG was an underdog when the playoffs started. All teams had great accomplishments, and it is hard to compare one to another - they all did a heck of a lot more than my SHG team did. From a fan perspective, with no family or personal ties to any of the players on any of the SHG championship teams - the 6A championship was the most fun to watch. (The others were a lot of fun too - don't get me wrong - )

A lot of times I think this is where I error OldFan. I think of things from my MetaPerspective. If the playoff game were on the Moon, the MetaNation, and no doubt the SHGNation, would find a way to get there. Spoiled I guess to be from a great town like Metamora that supports it's sports programs. Great thoughts. Thanks.

For me personally, my favorite playoff run was last year. Having gone to Champaign many times to watch the 3A & 4A title games, and knowing late in the season the Birds' had a legitimate chance of going 4A, and the dream of a Friday Night STATE Champ. game under the lights, and it all came true, what a great ride last year was. Birds' played 4 teams they normally wouldn't play and the two hosts of our away games, Breese Mater Dei & St. thomas More, treated the MetaNAtion like gold. Also, the showdown at the STATE game between Metamora's & Geneseo's band was fantastic. Everyone, even band haters, got into that. I will have to admit though, beating either NLP, JCA or SHG for a STATE title would prolly be more than the hearts of the MetaNation could take. Our paths will cross again in the very near future folks. There's a big wave headed towards MTHS and have heard big numbers projected for our enrollment by 2015. We could be a 5A/6A bubble team. This Summer alone, MGS is in the process of a 7 classroom expansion.

QUOTE (cornerrat @ Jul 28 2010, 10:26 PM) All..... Fair enough and a very diplomatic response. Lord help this little rodent if you rhigh school football enjoyment includes the Peoria area. Seriously though welcome to the board. As you can see from viewing some posts tonight it's not for evreybody but within reason you can say what is on your mind..... Ratsy I like to get different perspectives... and south of I80 certainly has opposing perspectives, so ive been lurking for a couple years now . You know while I was a Redbird I caught some Bloomington area games... When you guys played Montini in 07 @ Benedictine I tried to confiscate one of those Cycle whirlygigs noise maker things to no avail. You guys had the best offense of the 4 teams I saw that night, or in any week 1 that I can remember...
