All.... For what they are worth. Some strange rankings for other teams in the state. They showed Chatham and Jacksonville playing eight games. I will assume they mean't nine. Head to head and power ratings I am guessing puts a team in their respective numbered spot although that Lanphier and Lincoln position is a little odd. I wonder in this outlook who defeats SHG.... thinking.gif winkwink.gif gocycs.gif Ratsy

SHG 8-1 (1)
Rochester 8-1 (2)
Chatham 6-2 (3)
Springfield (6-3) (4)
Taylorville 3-6 (5)
Jacksonville 3-5 (6)
Southeast 3-6 (7)
Lanphier 1-8 (8)
Lincoln 2-7 (9)

In Chatham's case, I know that I(P)HSA has had the devil's own time getting a handle around their non-conference foe, St. Louis Gateway Prep. Whether its because they're an out of state school or some irregularity in the paperwork. I(P)HSA finally has it right, but maybe MaxPreps hasn't caught up yet. With JAX I have no idea. They're one of the few that managed to actually KEEP one of their non-conference foes.

The way they're laid out would have SH-G winning the head-to-head with Rochester, which is really confusing me. UNLESS.....

Breese Mater Dei is playing:

Effingham
Nashville
Bethalto (Civic Memorial)
Freeburg
Breese (Central)
St. Louis (Lift for Life Academy), MO
Taylorville
Sacred Heart-Griffin
Newton

Other than SHG, I can really see BMD running the table this year. One way MaxPreps' CS8 prediction works is if BMD goes 9-0.

Do I believe it? Of ourse not. BMD's overall schedule is a moderately tough 3A/4A schedule. I don't think it translates to an upset of a team like SH-G. I still think SHG's only chance of being upset is week four (Rochester), and I'd call THAT outcome an upset,

Just my gut reaction, but I think they're 4 for 5. I'll be really shocked if Jersey takes Jax.

O, Whiskered Sage -

Was that you who sought to enlighten Bridge and O'Dea this afternoon about Calpreps?

Pesonally, I'd love to know how they came to their predictions, since they can't have much more than history to go on. I'm a little leery this early (note the Jax and Lincoln) predictions. OTOH, by week seven or so, their "line" is usually good enough to support a wager - not, of course, that I'd ever DO such a thing saint.gif

All.... In the first segment of the radio show a caller wanted to know the "line" on the week one SHG/Chatham game. No problem I called in the second half of the program and told them about calpreps. I think Kevin thought it was a gambling site which it is not.

Calpreps doesn't have the program loaded yet for 2010 but when it becomes available you can take any high school team, say SHG and match them up against any other team in the state and get a projection score.

Also one can match teams up from previous years. For example the Cyclone 5A 2006 championship team against the Cycs 6A 2008 trophy winner. Kind of neat.

You are correct that this computer generated site doesn't see the whole picture. For instance they have SHG ranked 16th in the state with several questionable teams ahead of them that would have a tough time playing the Cyclones. They place a high value on wins but don't take into account what class produced the victories. An example Stillman Valley has had a few state championships in the last decade including a perfect 14-0 seeason last year. They are class 3A and (if I recall correctly) are ranked #10 in the state. What would happen if they played SHG. I know you see my point, but still it's a fun site. Ratsy gocycs.gif

All.... I was looking at calpreps again to pin down who would defeat the Cycs "projection" wise.. They are showing Mater Dei going 6-2 at the time they did not have the St. Louis game in their forecast. They will beat St. Louis so let's say Breese is 7-2. Now they still have SHG finishing #1 and Rochester #2 in the conference. So I suppose the one loss they think (although they predict a 50% chance of going 9-0) will indeed be a big upset.

Back to Mater Dei. Breese is ranked 85th in the state. Some Rochester fans are telling me they have some very tall receivers. Checked the 09 roster. Here is what they have. If these guys play there will be some "jump ball" passes flying. Ratsy

#88 Joe Kasson Jr. 6"1"
#85 Adam Feuline TE/DL 6'7"
#80 Jacob Kampwerth 6'8"
#45 Peter Raterman TE/LB 6'3"

Checked the stats. The only one that saw offensive action was Adam Feuline with 28 catches - 479 yards.
